Organic Senna :
Recently PSSG have introduced the concept of Organic Cultivation in the Senna Plantation. For this PSSG have selected areas of 2000 Acres around Poovani Village, on the banks of Tambrabarani River near Tinneveli for the Organic Cultivation.
There was very little past experience in the methodology of Organic Senna growing in India or overseas and hence a careful study of the available local innovations and guidance from experts in Organic farming was sought. Keeping in mind survey was made with the help of SCAL, Holland during 1997-1998. After making survey Organic Cultivation of Senna have been started during this season 1999.
The senna cultivated from these organic fields have been well received in the market giving the required encourgement. It has become a way ot agriculture, where in all chemicals and fertilizers are replaced by organically made and obtained manure. Sound farming practises to avoid pest and diseases.
